White Turmeric Powder

The Perfect Orange Turmeric Alternative

New to Australia, this exotic variety of turmeric offers a host of amazing benefits and packs a powerful anti-inflammatory & antioxidant punch.

White turmeric contains many phytonutrients including Caryophyllene, which is digested faster & easier than curcumin!

What is White Turmeric Good For?

White turmeric, scientifically known as Curcuma mangga, is a unique variety of turmeric, also known as mango turmeric or mango ginger in India. Its subtle aroma and flavour profile sets it apart from its more familiar cousin, yellow turmeric (Curcuma longa).

In culinary applications, white turmeric powder is a favoured ingredient, often used similarly to ginger or regular turmeric powder. Beyond its culinary uses, white turmeric offers valuable health benefits, possessing anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

4 White Turmeric Powder Benefits

White turmeric offers a range of health benefits thanks to its unique combination of compounds, making it a valuable addition to your wellness journey.

  1. Anti-Inflammatory Power: White turmeric contains healthy compounds like caryophyllene, curcumol, and germacrone, which have anti-inflammatory properties. These compounds can help reduce inflammation in the body, easing conditions like arthritis and digestive issues linked to inflammation.
  2. Antioxidant Support: Sesquiterpenes and other phytonutrients in white turmeric act as antioxidants, shielding cells from damage caused by free radicals. This protection may lower the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer.
  3. Improved Digestion: Thanks to its curcumol content and dietary fibre, white turmeric can assist digestion and may alleviate indigestion and bloating. It promotes a healthier gut environment, supporting overall digestive wellness.
  4. Joint and Muscle Relief: The anti-inflammatory properties of white turmeric make it a potential remedy for joint pain and muscle discomfort. Regular consumption may help manage these issues and enhance joint health.

White Turmeric Powder Benefits for Skin

White turmeric benefits the skin by offering anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can help reduce redness, inflammation, and signs of aging. It also has potential skin-brightening and acne-fighting qualities. When used in face masks with ingredients like egg white or honey, it can provide hydration, exfoliation, and a smoother complexion.

How to use White Turmeric for Face

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon of white turmeric powder (Curcuma mangga)
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon of honey (optional for added moisturizing)

Instructions:

  1. Start by ensuring your face is clean and makeup-free. Wash it with a gentle cleanser and pat dry with a clean towel.
  2. Mix a teaspoon of white turmeric powder with one egg white in a small bowl. You can also add one teaspoon of honey or yogurt for additional moisturizing benefits.
  3. Stir the ingredients together until you have a smooth paste. Adjust the amount of white turmeric if needed to achieve a paste-like consistency.
  4. Using clean fingertips or a brush, apply the mask evenly to your face, avoiding the sensitive eye area.
  5. Allow the mask to dry for about 15-20 minutes. You may feel a tightening sensation as it dries.
  6. Once the mask is dry, rinse your face with lukewarm water. Gently massage in a circular motion to help exfoliate your skin as you remove the mask.
  7. Pat your face dry with a clean towel and follow up with your regular skincare routine, which may include moisturizer or serum.

NOTE: It’s important to perform a patch test before applying a white turmeric face mask, to ensure you don’t have any allergic reactions or skin sensitivities.

How to Use White Turmeric?

Learning how to use white turmeric in your daily diet can be a flavourful journey to enhanced well-being. This versatile spice offers a subtle, earthy taste to a variety of dishes but also packs a punch with its health-promoting properties

  • Flavourful Seasoning: Use white turmeric powder as a seasoning for various dishes like roasted vegetables, grilled meats, or sautéed mushrooms to add a mild, earthy flavour. Or create your own spice blends by combining white turmeric powder with other spices like black pepper, ginger, and paprika.
  • Curry Base: Incorporate white turmeric powder into your curry base along with other spices like cumin, coriander, and chilli powder. It can contribute a unique flavour while providing added health benefits.
  • Rice and Grain Dishes: Mix white turmeric powder into rice, quinoa, or other grain dishes to infuse them with its subtle aroma and taste. It pairs well with ingredients like saffron and cardamom in rice recipes.
  • Tea or Infusions: Elevate your morning coffee or create a soothing tea infusion by blending ½ teaspoon of white turmeric powder with hot water. Add a touch of honey and a squeeze of lemon for an uplifting or comforting beverage with health benefits.
  • Enhance Your Smoothies and Juices: Elevate your daily smoothies and juices by adding a teaspoon of white turmeric powder. This versatile ingredient imparts a subtle spice and offers potential health benefits, making your beverages both flavourful and nutritious.

White Vs Yellow Turmeric

White turmeric is naturally bio-availability, thanks to its easily digested active compound, caryophyllene. In contrast, yellow turmeric relies on adding black pepper, ginger, or fatty oils to enhance the absorption of its primary active compound, curcumin.

  • Botanical Varieties: Both white turmeric and yellow turmeric are part of the Curcuma genus, originating from the root of the turmeric plant, also known as the rhizome.
  • Colour: White turmeric powder is pale beige or off-white, while its rhizome’s interior is a pale yellow colour. Yellow turmeric powder is bright orange-yellow, imparting a golden hue to dishes, and its rhizome’s interior is vibrant orange.
  • Flavour and Aroma: White Turmeric has a milder and less pungent flavour, offering a subtle earthy taste with a hint of fruitiness. Yellow Turmeric has a strong, slightly bitter, and peppery flavour and is known for its bold, distinctive taste.
  • Culinary Use: Yellow turmeric is a staple spice in various global cuisines, particularly Indian, Southeast Asian, and Middle Eastern dishes. It’s commonly used in curries, stews, and rice dishes. White turmeric is also used in cooking but is favoured for its milder taste, making it suitable for dishes where turmeric’s flavour should not dominate.
  • Medicinal Uses: Both yellow turmeric (Curcuma longa) and white turmeric (Curcuma mangga) offer anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. Yellow turmeric has more extensive research backing its health properties making it the favoured choice for medicinal use.

Q & A

Can I used it to my Skin (i.e my face) ? Kaushik Kumar asked on May 26, 2022

Hi Kaushik,
Yes, our product is a natural whole food not an extract, it is generally safe to use on the skin.
However, I do recommend trying on your hand or other parts of skin first, before you try on your face.
Hope this helps :)
