Cinnamon Scrolls with Apple, Black Garlic and Honey

Versatile black garlic adds a twist to a delicious sweet treat. The combination of black garlic and honey is healthy and so yummy too.

Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 baking tray
  • 1 sharp knife

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry
  • 1 large granny smith apple (or 2 small apples)
  • 1 teaspn cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 teaspn black garlic puree
  • 20 gms slithered almonds
  • milk to glaze
  • icing sugar to dust

Instructions

  • remove puff pastry sheets from freezer and lay flat
  • peel, core apples and dice into small pieces
  • place apples into a mixing bowl and sprinkle with cinnamon
  • blend honey and black garlic together then add to apples with almond slithers
  • spread mixture evenly over puff pastry sheets leaving a boarder along the top and bottom (long side)
  • brush a little water on the top boarder to ensure pastry forms a seal
  • roll up into a long sausage finishing at the top boarder, sealed edge down
  • brush with milk to form a nice glaze
  • slice each roll into 10 to 12 slices and lay flat on baking tray cut side down
  • bake 180C 20 mins or until pastry is golden
  • remove from oven, cool slightly, dust with icing sugar and serve warm

Top tips:
I recommend cutting the apple into small pieces as this makes the slicing of each scroll easier giving sharp edges to the pastry.
Carefully spoon left over juices over the scrolls before baking.
Variations:- Substitute slithered almonds with chopped walnuts or pecans.  Or add a handful of raisins for an extra fruity flavour.  If you are a chocolate lover try adding some chocolate chips for a decadent treat.
Storing Baked Scrolls:-  Room temperature for 1 to 2 days. Refrigerated for 1 week.  Freezer for up to 2 months.
